The Laps for CF Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Birmingham, AL, dedicated to raising awareness of cystic fibrosis (CF) and providing financial support in all areas of need for CF research, treatment, care, and improved quality of life.
Unlike other CF organizations, Laps for CF's priority is to keep funds directly influencing the lives of CF families and improving the local care centers that they frequent. The money raised by Laps for CF is donated in support of the 3 following entities and their causes:
- State CF Care Centers such as Children's Hospital provide medical treatment and services to CF patients, both children and adults.
- The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a national nonprofit organization represented in Alabama by its Alabama Chapter, finances all of the research toward finding a cure for the disease.
- CF Hope for Alabama is a nonprofit organization assisting CF families by providing them with financial support, transportation, and daily assistance.

A Short History
The most amazing aspect of Laps for CF lies in the story of its humble beginning which is attributed to one truly remarkable young lady, Emily Schreiber. Emily was diagnosed with CF in January of 2003 at age nine. Although a surprise to her and her family, she confronted her condition with determination and resolve, putting together her first CF fund-raising event, dubbed Laps for CF, only six weeks after her diagnosis. An avid swimmer for years, Emily's idea for the fund-raiser focused on individuals pledging dollar amounts for each lap she would swim. Now approaching its 8th year, Emily's Laps for CF event has grown from swimming in a small community pool in Birmingham to gaining the support of the state's two most prominent colleges, the University of Alabama and Auburn University, and, more recently, partnering with The Boomer Esiason Foundation and BioGuard to conduct nationwide swims. What began as a local swim fundraiser is now a successful CF non-profit with a variety of local and national events.
